Hide It in Your Heart

Temptation rarely gives you time to look something up.

That is why the psalmist wrote, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You" (Psalm 119:11). He did not say he had read it or owned a copy. He said he had hidden it in his heart, where it was ready when he needed it.

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He answered every time with Scripture: "It is written" (Matthew 4:4). He did not argue or improvise. He used the Word He already knew.

Memorizing Scripture is not a trick for scholars. It is how ordinary people get ready.

Start with one verse a week, not a chapter.

Say it out loud and write it where you will see it. The word "hidden" in your heart gives you power for the hour.

Use it. Say it when you are afraid, tempted, or discouraged, so it moves from your head to your heart.

A verse you know by heart goes with you everywhere, even into places where you cannot open a Bible.

Pick one verse today. Psalm 119:11 is a good one to start with.

Hiding the Word in your heart is one of the classes in Jesus Boot Camp. Start free at jesusbootcamp.org/join.
